Introduction

The Preliminary task we have been asked to do is to make a school newsletter or magazine. I have chosen to make a monthly sixth form magazine for sixth form students of both sexes I have chosen to aim it at this particular audience because I believe that they would be the ones most interested in it as they don’t have to wear uniform anymore. This magazine is called “Heston Community School News Monthly” the edition I will be creating will coincide with London Fashion Week and will be aimed at Heston Fashion. The edition will feature fun competitions sponsored by Topshop, games, photos of best dressed male and female students of the month, interviews with celebrity fashion icons and lots of fashion tips about what’s coming out in the season. From creating this school magazine I hope to be successful in leading up to my main project and give the students something to look forward to every month.

The requirements are to use a photo of a student in mid close up which we had to take with our own photography, it needs to be appropriately laid out and have a masthead. So far I have a few different ideas for the layout as I have made four flat plans which I will choose from to make the magazines front cover appeal to the students. The overall idea for my school magazine is to help students have something fun to look forward to in the month, each month it has different themes and fun topics that students in sixth form will find relevant. The style of the magazine overall is funky and trendy which I believe will help draw the readers into it as it ill have a fun vibe.

The purpose of my publication is to entertain the students as they can use this to read in their spare time and free hours instead of doing nothing and being bored, it is also made to inform them about different topics relevant to each month, this months issue is all about fashion. If this was a real magazine I would distribute it monthly as I believe if it was weekly it would be time consuming to make and also the students would think that its too much and therefore get bored of it.

I hope to attract my audience this month by the fun features it will have for instance; interviews with their favourite celebrities and pictures of themselves and their classmates and competitions with clothes from “Topshop” a hugely popular teenage fashion store. Students would also want to read it to pass time and be entertained. The elements I will experiment with in order to reach my full creative potential will be desk top publisher and Photoshop where I can manipulate my images to make them look creative.
